What Home Care in Campbelltown Involves

Campbelltown is on the outskirts of Sydney, and the distance is not just a detail. It is the thing that determines whether a support arrangement works or quietly falls apart.

Distance breaks arrangements

Campbelltown is approximately 50 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. That is far enough that a support worker coming in from anywhere central is making a long journey twice per visit.

The sequence is very predictable. The worker accepts the shift, does it for some weeks and then comes late, cancels sometimes, then doesn't come at all. The family is told it's a staffing matter. It is really a geographical problem, and it continues with the next worker.

So we do not staff Campbelltown from elsewhere. We seek workers from the Macarthur area, Campbelltown, Ingleburn, Minto, Ambarvale, Rosemeadow, Glen Alpine, Camden, Narellan, Leumeah. It's a smaller pool than the inner suburbs and we're honest about that; sometimes it takes longer to find the right person. But the local worker is the one still coming in two years, so it's worth waiting a fortnight for.

The same applies, more strongly, to the semi-rural fringe. Wedderburn, Menangle, Appin, Douglas Park and the properties out that way need someone who is really close, and it needs to be planned, not made in the same week.

An older suburb than people assume

Campbelltown is well known as a young growth area, and in sum it is. But it masks one important fact: the established parts of the area have been settled for decades, and the people who moved into the 1970s and 1980s housing are now elderly, ageing in place in suburbs that have changed around them.

Those houses are often a real benefit, brick on flat or slightly sloping blocks, everything on one level, wide-ish hallways. They are much easier to live in than a Queenslander or a two-storey terrace, and the truth is that for many Campbelltown homes, the house isn't the problem.

The yard often is. Blocks here are quite big by today's standards, and lawn, gardens and the shed require some effort. Lawn, garden and home maintenance is a fundable service within the everyday living category, and often the service that makes it possible to stay at home rather than move to an aged care home, not a luxury.

An occupational therapy home assessment is free under Support at Home regardless of income, and in these homes it is typically directed at the bathroom, the step at the back door and the laundry rather than stairs. Small changes remove a lot of risk for a relatively small investment, and equipment is purchased separately from your service hours.

Transport, hospital and getting around Macarthur

Campbelltown Hospital has grown significantly, serving the Macarthur region, with Camden Hospital nearby, so most needs can be met locally rather than requiring a trip toward Liverpool or the city. If someone is being discharged, call before it happens, the support organised during the admission process is more effective than support assembled afterwards.

The more difficult problem is how to get around. The rail line through Campbelltown, Leumeah, Minto and Ingleburn is useful if you live near it and much less so if you do not, and the bus service throughout the Macarthur area is stretched over long distances. Isolation comes in quick, hard-to-swallow waves, more quickly than families realise here, as distances that seem convenient on wheels are not the same without them.

Transport support is one of the most valuable services in a Campbelltown plan. Not a convenience: the thing that gets the person to their appointments, to see family, to the shops, back into their life. It is worth funding, and worth building in deliberately rather than adding on after someone has already withdrawn.

Campbelltown is also home to a strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. If that is relevant to a family, we will seek out staff who have genuine cultural safety experience, and you have the right to request that specifically rather than accepting a general assurance.

Why Families Choose Us

The majority of providers will send whoever is rostered. We work differently, with personalised care, and it changes both what you pay and who walks through your door.

01  Local workers, not dispatched ones

The first thing we examine is who already lives close to Campbelltown. A worker travelling across Sydney arrives late, incurs travel charges, and eventually stops accepting the shift. A local one lasts years.

02  You choose your own support worker

You talk to or meet people before any plans are made, and you make your own decision. If someone is not a good match, we continue looking, it's not a complaint, it's normal.

03  Your funding buys more hours

Since there is no agency margin between you and your worker, our rates are about $45 to $70 an hour, whereas typical agencies are $70 to $95 an hour. On a mid-level classification, that is around three hours of additional support per week.

04  The same person, week after week

Support work is all about continuity. Someone who is familiar with your habits sees the change, and that's how problems get caught early rather than becoming emergencies.

05  Straight answers about money

We provide a comprehensive price list before you sign, let you know what your funding covers, and tell you clearly if we are not what you are looking for.

What Home Care Costs in Campbelltown

What that difference is worth

For a Classification 5 participant, $39,697 a year is $9,924 per quarter. After the 10 percent care management deduction, about $8,932 per quarter is left to cover services.

Hourly rate paid Hours per quarter Hours per week
$88, typical agency rate 101.5 about 7.8
$62, with Support Network 144 about 11.1

This equates to an additional three and a quarter hours of support per week, from the same funding.

What you contribute

You pay a proportion of the cost of the service, determined by an income and assets assessment with Services Australia. Everyone is able to receive clinical care without charge. Personal care and other independence services 5 to 50 percent based on means; everyday living services (cleaning and gardening) 17.5 to 80 percent.

A full pensioner paying for a $65 hour of personal care contributes $3.25. A self-funded retiree who is not a health card holder pays $32.50. Both have no out-of-pocket expenses for nursing.

If you haven't gone through your income and assets assessment with Services Australia, you're recorded as “means not disclosed” and pay the highest contribution rate, irrespective of your actual situation. Others avoid it for privacy, and pay self-funded-retiree rates on a pension income.

Do not let funding go to waste

Support at Home funding is provided quarterly, and you can carry over only $1,000 or 10% of the quarterly budget, whichever is more. Anything over that is added back to the government at the end of the quarter. On Classification 6, if the spend is $5,000 less in a quarter, approximately $3,825 is lost forever.

We monitor this for the people we support and highlight it while there is still time to bring services forward.

No hidden charges

Providers cannot charge separate administration, entry or exit fees. The total price of the service is the whole price.

Rates are subject to a price cap, which was originally due on 1 July 2026 but was deferred in May 2026. You are protected by comparing published price lists.

Funded separately

Equipment and home modifications come from a separate stream, so they don't use your service hours.

Restorative Care, up to 16 weeks, usually following a hospital stay or fall, about $6,000.

Four steps, and the first step is a free phone call.

1.  Tell us what you need

Call 1300 671 931. Let us know your suburb and street, the type of home, your classification (if applicable) and the support you are seeking. If you don't have funding at the moment, we will tell you what you can expect from My Aged Care.

2.  We look for workers nearby

We begin with people who already reside nearby and match what you asked for: times, gender, language, experience. You see who is available and do not have to be assigned to a person.

3.  You meet them and decide

Do not make any commitments until you've spoken with or met the individuals we recommend. You choose. If the first individual is not right, we continue to look.

4.  Support starts, and we stay in touch

Your worker starts on the agreed working schedule. We make sure it is working, monitor your budget each quarter, and tweak as circumstances dictate.

Do not have funding yet?

Start with My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. Approval to funding can take 3 to 6 months, so it's best to begin before you need assistance. A lot of families use us privately in that waiting period and then continue with the same worker when the plan kicks in.

One piece of advice matters more than any other: at your assessment, describe the worst day in a normal week, not the best. Assessments frequently occur on a good morning and families try to sugarcoat the reality out of protectiveness, and the classification becomes a reflection of a performance, not a life.

Coming home from hospital?

Call before discharge, not after. Support put in place while the person is still in hospital works far better, and it is the most important single factor in preventing readmission.

Questions People Ask Us

Yes. We provide support workers throughout Campbelltown and the surrounding areas, such as Leumeah, Minto, Ingleburn, Ambarvale and Rosemeadow. When you contact us our first concern is finding someone who lives close to you rather than sending someone from across Sydney, this has been the biggest determinant of whether an arrangement works in our experience.

We can, and it must be better planned. The work requires someone who really lives close to the house; Wedderburn, Menangle, Appin, Douglas Park and the acreage properties out that way have a smaller pool. It takes more lead time to set up but it works, and we would rather be honest about the timeframe than promise something we can't maintain week after week.

Yes, sometimes, and it is better to be prepared for it than caught off guard. The Macarthur area has a smaller workforce than the inner suburbs, so we are sometimes a little slower to find the right person. What we will not do is staff a Campbelltown shift from a central location, because those arrangements consistently fail in less than 6 months.

The cost of our support workers in Sydney is usually $45 to $70 per hour for personal care and domestic support, whereas it is $70 to $95 per hour for services provided by a traditional full-service agency. Weekend and public holiday loadings apply. Nursing and allied health are 100% funded by the Government under Support at Home, and you do not pay a cent regardless of your income or assets. A detailed, written price list is sent before any order is placed.

No. We work with Support at Home participants, people who have left a Home Care Package, clients of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, and privately funded families. Some people enrol privately with us while they're waiting for their plan to be funded, and they stay with the same worker when their plan goes into effect.

On 1 November 2025, Home Care Packages were replaced by Support at Home. It is divided into eight classifications, from approximately $10,731 a year at level 1 to approximately $78,106 at level 8, released in quarterly budgets. Care management receives 10% of every quarter before services are purchased. The amounts are indexed on 1 July each year, check the latest amounts with My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.

Yes, and that is at the heart of our approach. Before anything is set up, you talk to or meet workers; you choose who supports you; and you can switch if it is not a good fit. Support is personal work, and compatibility is as important as qualifications.

Currently, you can change at any time and your funding follows you, and there are no exit fees. We manage the transition, including coordinating with your previous provider, so you don't experience any gaps in support. When it comes to changing, most people find it much easier than they thought.

Effective from 1 October 2026, personal care (showering, dressing, grooming and continence support) is considered a clinical support and will be fully funded by the Government, with no participant contribution required from your allocated budget.
